Khursheed demands govt to pay compensation to Gadani incident victim:

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has demanded the federal government to give compensation to the victims of Gadani ship fire tragedy, ARY News reported.

At least 20 people were killed and over 22 others were wounded in the blaze after blasts ripped through an oil tanker at a ship-breaking yard in Gadani.

Khursheed Shah, in his letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has stated that at least 26 labourers lost their lives in the incident whereas several others were injured and many others went missing.

The opposition leader said that the incident was very serious in its nature.

He demanded the government to pay compensation to the victims of the fire and take action against those having involvement in the fatal incident.

It should be noted that the labourers in the ship breaking industry often work in poor safety conditions without basic protective gear.

The Gadani ship-breaking industry has fallen on hard times recently and employs about 9,000 workers, fewer than in its boom years at the end of the last decade.
